Dedicated Luminescence

DLRLuminescence is a key analytical technique in many life science experiments. Theoretically, luminescence is one of the most sensitive measurement modes, but it places high demands on the instrument used to measure luminescence assays.

To take advantage of luminescence assays, BMG LABTECH has created an internal system that is solely dedicated to luminescence within the PHERAstar Plus and PHERAstar FS as well as the OPTIMA and Omega Series including the FLUOstar, POLARstar and LUMIstar microplate readers.

LUMIstar Omega 384-plate readerThese microplate readers have a separate power supply and electronics for luminescence that are shielded, thereby decreasing the background noise. This allows for a much higher signal to noise ratio than can be achieved in competing readers, and it allows for lower limits of detection.

BMG LABTECH has also designed specific optics for luminescence that increase the signal in various plate formats (96, 384, or 1536). This allows for an uncompromised signal regardless of your plate format.

For more information on how to perform a simple luminescence measurement with the Omega Series of microplate readers or DLR ratio Evaluation, take a look at the following videos:

Simple Luminescence Reading

In this tutorial from the video training series, you can see a demonstration of a simple software set up for a FLUOstar Omega microplate reader in order to perform end point luminescence measurements of samples and a blank in a 96-well plate format. Automatic gain adjustment ensures maximal dynamic range and luminescence measurements from top can be followed in real time.
