From assay development to compound screening

Joao works for lifeArc, a medical research charity involved in translational sciences and specifically focussing on unmet medical problems. Recently, Joao has been involved in a COVID-19 project focussed on the identification of small molecules targeting NSP14, an exonuclease of the coronavirus family. His main aim was to study NSP14, develop a fluorescence-based activity assay and then test compounds against it. For this purpose, he used a CLARIOstar Plus and a PHERAstar FSX, for assay development, and compound screening and assay miniaturisation, respectively. Joao analysed his data with the MARS software.
