Drug discovery using natural products from the Brazilian biodiversity on the CLARIOstar

  • Company/University: Cell Signalling Research Group, University of Nottingham, and COMPARE initiative, UK
  • Interviewee: Dr Maria Arruda (Head of Researcher Development)
  • Products used: CLARIOstar
  • Method: Protein-protein interaction and ligand binding

Maria manages a joint drug discovery program between the University of Nottingham and Brazil. The main goal is to test natural products from the Brazilian biodiversity for drug discovery purposes.

This is mainly achieved using protein-protein interaction and ligand binding assays. The CLARIOstar is the favourite platform of the group as the sensitivity both with monochromators and with filters is impressive. The results obtained on the CLARIOstar using NanoBRET or fluorescent ligands could not be replicated on any other vendor platform.
