Adjustable gain for fluorescent intensity and luminescent assays

The gain is a way to control the voltage across a photomultiplier tube (PMT), thereby making the PMT more or less responsive to the intensity of the measured signal.

Since fluorescence and luminescence signals can vary greatly in intensity, the gain thereby offers greater flexibility and allows one microplate reader to measure a greater dynamic range of analyte concentration and assay responses.
