When should orbital averaging be used as opposed to well scanning?

A center endpoint reading excites and measures only in the center of the well, giving one number. An orbital average reading excites and measures in a definable orbit around the well, giving one averaged number. A well scan reading excites and measures in a definable grid pattern in each well, giving multiple measurements per well. Many things can be done with well scan data such as setting thresholds and creating three dimensional graphs of each well.
