How can I maximize my inhibitor screens?

April 09, 2013

One way to maximize your inhibitor screens is to get more out of each treatment.

For example if you can monitor the activity of multiple enzymes in the same well you will get more results from each individual volume of inhibitor.

An excellent example of this practice is found in BMG LABTECH application note 235 where the activity of three enzymes is monitored in a single well. Using the multifunctional capabilities of the FLUOstar Omega both absorbance and fluorescence intensity were monitored in a single well allowing the assessment of inhibitors on the function of metalloaminopeptidases.

Metalloaminopeptidases are important for the survival of the parasites that cause malaria. Therefore discovering inhibitors of their function could lead to new anti-malarial agents.
