On track of new gut bacteria that can influence our health

The Microbial Biology and Metagenomics group at the University of Queensland’s Diamantina Institute uses the BMG LABTECH FLUOstar Omega microplate reader to develop new methods to study the human gut microbiome. The researchers’ aim is to assess how the products that these microbes produce or consume influence digestive health.

A shining light in the deep

Professor Peter Karuso, from the Department of Molecular Sciences at Macquarie University, recently set sail on the CSIRO's purpose-built research vessel, the RV Investigator, on a 31 day voyage that covered over 2,600 nautical miles off the Western Australian coast. Peter sampled sponges from 20-120 m depths and assess the correlation between fluorescence in these sponges with the presence of symbiotic cyanobacteria or unicellular algae. On board was the CLARIOstar making fluorescence and absorbance measurements on high sea possible.

BMG LABTECH supports students with their participation in the 2017 iGEM competition

BMG LABTECH, a leading manufacturer of microplate readers, is pleased to announce their continued involvement with IGEM projects, an international team competition open to students interested in synthetic biology. Many projects have been supported since 2009 and this year BMG LABTECH selected five Universities. Three were provided with microplate readers, the University of Dresden, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Cork. Two further universities were supported, the University of Freiburg with financial support and the University of Oxford with extensive supply of consumables.
