Mario Schneider

We invite you all backstage and introduce the people behind our microplate readers. Today: he brings different departments together for the common good. Introducing our Product Specialist Mario.

Hi, my name is Mario. I’m a Product Specialist at BMG LABTECH and by education I’m a chemist with a strong focus on chemometrics and data analysis. I joined BMG LABTECH in 2017. Before, I was a post-doc in a biophysics department working on protein aggregation and Alzheimer’s disease research.

What does your job entail?

My job entails drinking a lot of coffee to stay creative because I do a lot of conceptional work. I do a lot of prototyping, especially for our data analysis software MARS. I do project management to some extent. One of my main tasks is bringing different departments together at one table to get new ideas for new products, new instruments, new software, improve existing instruments and so on.

What do you like most about your job?

I’m somehow in a bridge position, so I work together with all the departments – sales, marketing, research & development. I basically belong to the research & development team but, due to this cooperative position, I get a broad overview of the projects that are currently running at BMG LABTECH.

What are three words that best describe BMG LABTECH?

Social, expertise and teamwork.

What do you like most about BMG LABTECH?

Basically, all employees identify with the company and this actually drives them to reach common goals and to be prepared for the future.

What is your biggest challenge at BMG LABTECH?

My biggest challenge at BMG LABTECH is choosing between the different menus in the company restaurant.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I like running, I like hiking and other kinds of sports. I like playing the guitar and of course I like spending time with my family, but not necessarily in this order.

What is a fun fact about you many people may not know?

The last three years I wrote a book about data analysis. It was hard work, but I really enjoyed it. And it’s going to be published very soon.

What are the values that drive you?

Push the limits, stay healthy and contribute to the future.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

My favourite place in the world is on the top of a mountain, enjoying nature.

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

I think I would choose Elon Musk, although I know his schedule is very tight and he works really hard. But I think for one day it would be ok to switch with Elon Musk.

If I weren’t so damn good at my job, I’d probably be …

I would probably be a singer and a guitarist in a rock band.

What drives you every day?

What drives me every day is at least one cup of coffee and of course my values.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

In order to be part of our society you simply have to accept the fact that a lot of things are imaginary.
