The FLUOstar OPTIMA ABS absorbance microplate reader allows users the flexibility to upgrade to detect fluorescence and luminescence. If your lab can envision the need to detect luciferase or GFP, this platform can be quickly upgraded with those detection modes. The FLUOstar OPTIMA ABS absorbance microplate reader has other features most basic ELISA readers lack. It can be equipped with reagent injectors to initiate fast kinetic reactions, like enzyme assays. All OPTIMA microplate readers can accept, e.g. a gas-vent and incubation hardware, so cellular measurements can be performed at 5% CO2 and at 37°C. This is useful for cell proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, the MTT assay, apoptosis and cell migration as well as bacterial growth kinetics. THe FLUOstar OPTIMA ABS absorbance microplate reader, as well as all BMG LABTECH microplate readers, come with user-friendly and intuitive reader control software as well as comprehensive data analysis software, MARS. It allows one-click calculation of DNA concentration, standard curve plots, error bars, standard deviations, IC50 / EC50s, live-dead ratios and Vmax and Km for enzyme kinetic calculations. It's easy enough that users will no longer have to print their data and enter it into another format or create their own standard curves in a dedicated data analysis software. After data is analyzed, it is only a simple one-step process to any data from the FLUOstar OPTIMA ABS absorbance microplate reader into Microsoft Excel® format. BMG LABTECH's advanced hardware, combined with our powerful data analysis tools, result in a detection synergy that provides better data, faster.
FLUOstar OPTIMA ABS Applications
The FLUOstar OPTIMA ABS absorbance microplate reader performs UV/Vis absorbance in any plate format from 6- to 96- or 384-wells. Every absorbance microplate reader available should be able to measure Bradford, MTT and ELISA assays and the FLUOstar OPTIMA ABS does this well. What sets this absorbance plate reader apart from other instruments is its abilityto detect wavelengths as low as 240 nm, low enough for NADH detection or DNA and protein 260/280 measurements. Nearly every other ELISA reader uses a lamp that stops producing light in the blue wavelength range, so they can't detect DNA at 260 nm. All FLUOstar OPTIMA microplate readers have xenon lamps that emit well into the lower UV. This low UV capability means it can be used for nearly all microplate based spectroscopy assays. Not all of the features mentioned above are available in the basic units or in all detection modes. Optional accessories may be necessary to perform certain assays. Please contact your local distributor for details.
